A Bondi real estate agent has been hit with a new charge after he allegedly withheld information from police about a deadly street racing crash that killed two young brothers.
Raquel Marie Borg, 24, was allegedly in an Audi driven by Adam Yurun on August 25 last year when it was captured on CCTV street racing against a car driven by Jimmy Martin Brito.
The competing cars allegedly reached speeds of more than 130 km/h in 60 km/h residential zones along The Grand Parade in Monterey in Sydney’s south.
Police allege the men were drag racing when Mr Brito lost control of his Subaru and crashed into a pole, killing his nephews Peter Abreu, 9, and Xavier Abreu, 10.
Ms Borg allegedly witnessed the fatal crash but did not stop or speak to police until she was arrested weeks later. She was charged with concealing a serious indictable offense.
On Thursday, a second charge was laid against the real estate agent in the Sydney Downing Center Local Court.
Her lawyer Samuel Shenouda confirmed both charges had been certified.
The court documents reveal the 24-year-old is accused of failing to notify police after he saw the fatal crash despite knowing the reckless driving had resulted in death.
Police claim she withheld information that would have helped police arrest and prosecute Mr Yurun for manslaughter and dangerous driving occasioning death.
Ms Borg has not entered pleas into either of the concealment charges.
Magistrate Clare Farnan adjourned the matter for two months to allow the parties to hold a case conference.
Police allege a deadly street race between Mr Yurun and Mr Brito began at 9.30pm on August 25, 2023 when the men met in La Perouse in Sydney’s east.
About 20 minutes later, Mr Brito allegedly lost control of his car and crossed over two lanes of traffic onto the wrong side of the road before smashing into a pole.
Chilling surveillance videos taken from houses along the road reveal the moment the car leaves the road and becomes wrapped around a tree.
The impact was so forceful that the engine of Mr Brito’s car flew out of the bonnet and landed several meters away.
His two nephews died, while a nine-year-old girl escaped with only minor injuries.
Police allege Ms Borg and Mr Yurun saw the fatal crash but did not stop to help or notify the police.
Mr Yurun has been charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, organizing race between vehicles and two counts of failing to stop and rendering assistance after impact causing death.
Mr Brito has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death, two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death at a speed more than 45 km/h over the speed limit, and one count of causing bodily harm by misconduct.
Both men remain before the courts.
